PRESS RELEASE. From the San Mateo County Harbor District on August 4th, 2025.
Update Thursday August 7th, 2025 DATE CHANGE: Now 8/11/2025 to 8/17/2025 (It was 8/7 and complete by 8/14). No work on the weekends, although the dredge pumping will continue 24 hours a day. The dredge pumping is currently transferring sand from the boat ramps across the harbor to the Maverick’s side where they are building the eel grass platform. After that is finished the dredge will take sand from the eastern breakwater arm and send it over the wall to Surfer’s Beach.
Stay tuned for updates from Vortex, the contractor, and the Harbor District.
Pipeline launch – We will be transporting the second dredge pipeline segments down the slope from the assembly location and placing them in the water. Pipe sections will cross the pedestrian path at that location during brief intervals. We estimate approximately 1 hour to move and launch each section.
Pipeline sections will then be transported up the beach along the breakwater and assembled where the pedestrian trail meets Hwy 1. The pipeline will be pulled down the slope and transported along the beach at low tide, and then lifted into position at the top of the rip rap slope. This operation is scheduled to begin on Monday 8/11 and complete by 8/17. Our crews will work with pedestrians and cyclists to allow limited passage during operations as it is safe to do so.
Construction of Ramp to Beach – We will be constructing a ramp from the top of the shoreline slope along Surfers Beach in order to allow equipment to be transported to and from the beach. This work will take place just east of the stairway. Pedestrian traffic will be interrupted, but foot and bicycle traffic will be able to flow around the work by moving into the shoulder of Hwy 1. This operation is scheduled to begin on 8/11 and complete by 8/17. Our crews will work with pedestrians and cyclists to allow limited passage during operations as it is safe to do so.
