Letter from Caltrans to District 3 Supervisor, Ray Mueller

“Caltrans recently received correspondence from Montara Water and Sanitary District expressing interest in acquiring the properties originally intended for the former State Route 1 Once a Specific Plan, which is a specific planning/zoning document, is prepared by San Mateo County and certified by the California Coastal Commission, Caltrans will be able to dispose of these properties.”

5a. Caltrans Presentation about their fire hazard mitigation work on the Right of Way parcel in Montara and Moss Beach. Speakers were Jeneane Crawford, Caltrans Public Information Officer and John Carlston, Caltrans District Office Chief for right of way appraisal and excess land and property management. They provided a brief overview of the history of the Devil’s Slide Bypass area and a report on the current work in progress which adheres to the following Cal Fire recommendations:

  • Creates a defensible space: remove leaves, fallen trees, barks and debris and anything that can be a fuel, mitigating the risk of fire. (The property owners also have to create a defensible space around their properties.)
  • Collaborates with a certified arborist.
  • Conducts ongoing weed abatement.
  • Protects environmental resources while carrying out fire mitigation work.

Regular meetings are 7:30pm on the first and third Thursday of each month. They used to held at the District office at 8888 Cabrillo Hwy, next to Pt Montara Lighthouse and Hostel.

Services

Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM) â€“ MWSD is a member of SAM, the agency that collects and cleans our Coastside community’s wastewater before it enters the ocean. SAM meets monthly on the 4th Monday at 7:30pm. Jim Harvey and Scott Boyd presently serve as SAM board members.

Recology of the Coast â€“ MWSD has contracted with Recology of the Coast for trash pickup, recycling, and waste hauling.
