Our Story

The Half Moon Bay Robotics high school team (FRC Team 8793 – the “Pumpkin Bots”) was founded as a high school team in 2022 and was honored with multiple awards in the first year. The Pumpkin Bots were invited to the National Competition to compete with teams from all over the world!
Many Bay Area teams have 20-100 students, while HMB’s team is smaller, with closer to 10 active students. A key advantage of a smaller team is that everybody gets a chance to work on the robot and learn skills in a number of different technical and business/marketing areas.
HMB Robotics generally meets 2x week throughout the year and more often during competition season Competition season is January – May, but there are opportunities to get involved off season too!
Why join HMB Robotics?
- Be part of the process to build a working robot
- Explore any aspect and discover new interests
- Do mechanical, electrical, CAD design, software, computer vision
- Do marketing, fundraising, and business management
- No experience needed!
- Meet new people and make new friends
- Guidance from experienced mentors
- Develop real world skills sought after by companies
- Lots of future scholarship opportunities
