PRESS RELEASE and VIDEOS. From CAL FIRE CZU Nextdoor page on December 19th, 2025 and from the Coastside Fire Protection District (CFPD) Director’s meeting on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025 at 4:00pm as a hybrid meeting.

After 41 years of dedicated service, Battalion Chief Ken Lord retires.

From busy Training Chief and EMS Coordinator to Professional Relaxer.

Chief Ken Lord is finally trading “Code 3s” for “High Seas.” His next vehicle will be something with significantly lower clearance and less traction.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Chief Lord for his unwavering professionalism and for being the steady hand that Coastside relied on for 41 years.

We wish him a retirement full of family, travel, and the blissful realization that he never has to listen to a 3:00am dispatch call ever again.

His journey began with 14 years as a Half Moon Bay Volunteer before embarking on a 29-year professional tenure spanning Point Montara Fire, CAL FIRE, Coastside Fire Protection District, and San Mateo County Fire. As Training Chief and EMS Supervisor, Chief Lord was an architect of excellence; he didn’t just manage emergency services, he mentored the very heartbeat of the district, hosting numerous Volunteer Fire Academies and ensuring that his successor’s successors were prepared for the call.

Chief Lord, thank you for your service. We hope the next chapter in your life fills you with as much joy as you’ve brought this department and the people of this community.
