“To fulfill the permit requirements outlined by the Coastal Commission, Caltrans will provide public access improvements supporting at least 75 free public parking spaces in the vicinity of Surfers Beach. Caltrans will work with local entities to determine the location of the parking facilities.”

San Mateo County Harbor District General Manager’s Report

October 3, 2025, received updated brief from our Pillar Point Harbor Surfers Beach Safe Parking Project consultant, CSWST2 concerning potential options to address the parking issues faced by the District.

CSWST2 has identified three options, two on Burnham Strip, and one on the west side of Route 1 between Sams Restaurant and Parking Lot C3.

The option on the Burnham Strip would involve the same parking lot with one option including an entrance to the lot from Avenue Alhambra, the other option would include access from Route 1.

The west side option, pictured below, would have access from Parking Lot C3 and from Route 1.
