The culture we live in today is splintered and people are feeling disconnected. Empathy is actually under attack. Compassion for others, in such circumstances, needs deliberate cultivation—both in groups and in individual spiritual practice. One of the root causes of the issue is the individualistic consumerism that is ingrained in our culture today. On Sunday, October 5th, UU Coastside welcomes a very distinguished speaker, Rev. Dr. John Buehrens, to speak on “Cultivating Compassion in Heartless Times.” If you are feeling the stress and division of these times — we urge you to join us. This service begins at 11 am in the Odd Fellows Hall, 526 Main Street, Half Moon Bay.
Rev. Dr. John Buehrens was President of the Unitarian Universalist Association, 1993-2001. In 2017, he retired as Senior Minister of the First UU Society of San Francisco. The author of nine books about progressive religion, he now lives in Berkeley with his wife of 53 years, the Rev. Gwen Langdoc Buehrens.
In this service, Diedrik Edholm and Tom Devine will provide beautiful instrumentals, and Tom Devine leads us in inspirational hymns. Please join us for coffee hour after the service. Encourage your friends to join us.
