Pacifica, California 94044
Join the Pacific Land Trust Stewardship Volunteers on 10-25-26 from 10:00 am to 1:00pm at Pedro Point Headlands. The vegetation on the South Ridge Trail is encroaching onto the trail tread, making access difficult. We will take the “ankle express” and our tools up to the South Ridge Trail. We will be constructing water bars as an erosion control measure.
From the western end of the South Ridge Trail, on a clear day, you can see the Farallon Islands, 23 miles off San Francisco. Some of the islands have hills over 300’ tall. Because of the Earth’s curvature, you will see just these hilltops.
Pacific Land Trust Stewardship Volunteers are pleasantly surprised by how good they feel, both physically and mentally, after spending the day working with great people in a beautiful setting on such worthwhile land stewardship and trail maintenance projects.
The PLT Project Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, Steve Diers, will share information about the fauna at Pedro Point Headlands. Greg Strosnider, a Scholar of Botany, Biochemistry, and Ecology, serves as the PLT Stewardship Specialist and will share information about the flora on the way to the job site.
Projects will be performed in a variety of weather conditions, including light rain, and in areas where poison oak, blackberry thorns, and ticks can be present. Be prepared and take appropriate precautions:
- Dress in layers, wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long-sleeve shirts.
- Bring: a backpack, water, gloves, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
- Tools and gloves will be provided.
- Bathrooms are not available on site. They are available in the adjacent Upper Devil’s Slide Parking Lot.
Volunteers under 18 must have written permission from a parent or guardian, and an adult must accompany those under 16. Email Steve Diers at steved@pacifica-land-trust.org to request a PLT Young Adult Stewardship Waiver form for volunteers ages 16 and 17. They can bring it with them to the scheduled PLT Stewardship Volunteer Project.
The goal is to keep the fourth Sunday of the month as the PLT Stewardship Volunteer Project for the coming months (excluding December). Monthly notices are emailed 1 week before the workday. To receive information about the PLT Stewardship Volunteer
Opportunities, contact Steve Diers, PLT Volunteer Coordinator, at steved@pacifica-land-trust.org or Greg Strosnider, PLT Stewardship Specialist, at greg@pacifica-land-trust.org.
Access Pedro Point Headlands in one of three ways:
- By the informal trail (Future Coastal Trail), leaving from the dirt parking lot near Ace Hardware. “Take the ankle express,” on the 1-mile hike to the main trailhead.
- By parking at the Devil’s Slide parking lot north of the tunnels and walking 1/4 mile north up the access trail to the trailhead at the entrance of this parking lot.
- Through the “green vehicle gate” just 550’ north of the Devil’s Slide parking lot entrance, and driving up a short hill to the meeting area at the main trailhead.
