Update on SR-1 Construction: The City Continues to Advocate for Traffic Improvements

Following Memorial Day weekend, the City remains in close communication with Caltrans regarding ongoing traffic congestion associated with Highway 1 paving operations and temporary signal system disruptions along the corridor.

Caltrans Traffic Operations team members are onsite actively evaluating intersections throughout the project limits, from Moss Beach to Half Moon Bay, and will continue adjusting signal timing to optimize traffic flow. While some operational changes are in place, intermittent congestion and extended delays are still expected as paving work continues.

Several intersections, including Coronado Street and Ruisseau Francais Avenue, remain on temporary preset signal timing during active construction phases. Additional intersections may periodically operate under similar conditions as work progresses, including North Main Street, Highway 92, Kelly Avenue, and Poplar Avenue.

The City also continues regular coordination with Caltrans District 4, County Supervisor Ray Mueller, Assemblymembers Marc Berman and Diane Papan, and Senator Josh Becker regarding both immediate traffic management measures and longer-term operational improvements.

Residents experiencing significant traffic delays, malfunctioning signals, or unsafe traffic conditions are encouraged to report concerns directly to Caltrans District 4 Traffic Operations:

(510) 286-4444; Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; Caltrans.d4@dot.ca.gov

When contacting Caltrans, residents should request routing to: District 4 Traffic Operations / Signal Systems (TMC coordination.)

Providing the location, direction of travel, approximate time, and nature of the issue can assist traffic engineers in evaluating field conditions and signal timing adjustments.

Project information is available on the Caltrans website here.
The City will continue providing updates as additional information becomes available.
