PRESS RELEASE. From the San Mateo County Sheriff Office on February 5th, 2025.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. – The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office today released its 2024 year-end crime statistics, highlighting a significant decline in both violent and property crimes across the communities it serves. These statistics reflect reported crimes in the unincorporated areas of San Mateo County and the contracted communities of Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, San Carlos, Portola Valley, and Woodside. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office provides contracted law enforcement services for Caltrain and SamTrans and operates two correctional facilities.
Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, the agency’s crime data demonstrates a measurable
improvement in public safety compared to the same period in 2023. Violent crime decreased by 14%, with 149 fewer cases reported, while property crime dropped by 15%, amounting to 487 fewer incidents.
San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus credited the success to the dedication and professionalism of the Sheriff’s Office personnel, as well as the agency’s ongoing collaboration with community partners.
“San Mateo County continues to be a safe place to live, work, and visit. These substantial decreases in crime are a direct result of the unwavering commitment of the men and women of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, who work tirelessly to protect our communities. Our partnerships with residents, businesses, and local organizations have played a crucial role in ensuring public safety,” said Sheriff Corpus.
