Kudos to the San Mateo County Planning Commission (led by Lisa Ketcham) who made a very wise decision about the permits for the towers on Montara. They split the decision and agreed to the use permit for the tower buildings but sent the planners back to reconsider any road grading project and did not approve that portion of the request. Thanks to everyone who wrote in comments and/or spoke at the meeting. This is a good example of our local officials making good, balanced decisions that take into account the public views.
Less than a week before the PC meeting and still no staff report on the agenda item. We are left with an assumption that the same grossly destructive boondoggle that occurred a year ago with the same erroneous paperwork, the same seemingly inept county and state park personnel, and maybe even the same ignorant road grading crew and methods will prevail again. Anyone who gives a damn about the natural and non-destructive recreational values should hammer hard against this item at the Planning Commission meeting on the 26th.
By the way, the stalled truck shown in the pictures above is not on the road of this project. It is merely the result of a wrong turn (at the house) by a driver who did not know the route to the mountaintop. It does, however, demonstrate the ignorance of many of the workers using the road up Montara Mountain through McNee.
