PRESS RELEASE. From San Mateo County Parks Department Monday, August 23rd, 2021.
San Mateo County Parks is embarking on a strategic planning process for our interpretive programs and resources and we want to hear from you!
You may have heard of and even participated in some of the current programs, such as Take a Hike, Junior Ranger, Movies in the Park and the Kite Festival.
We also manage park interpretive panels and visitor centers, provide school classroom visits, partner with volunteer and park friends groups, and partner with San Mateo County Health staff as part of the Park Rx program.
What is the Interpretive Strategic Plan?
An interpretive strategic plan provides a framework to guide department staff and partners in developing information and activities that are inclusive, welcoming and effectively reach visitors through clear messaging. The plan will help shape and build the interpretive program and resources for the department for the next 5-10 years. Our goals are to:
- Enhance the visitor experience and strengthen information provided about each park.
- Identify activities and programs that resonate with all visitors and invite them to be engaged.
Throughout the planning process we will focus on identifying and understanding barriers that impact park access.
The development of this plan is reliant on seeking and obtaining input from many community groups and individuals. Thus far, we have participated in discussions with staff and community partners to better understand how we can improve our outreach, communication and programming.
