MONTARA, Calif. – Deputies with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 56-year-old Oakland man Sunday night on multiple charges following a road rage incident in Montara during which the suspect reportedly pointed a firearm at another driver.
On Sunday, June 14, 2026, at around 8:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Highway 1 and 2nd Avenue in Montara following reports of a road rage incident. During the incident, the suspect reportedly pointed a firearm at the victim, was speeding and driving erratically.
The suspect fled the area, but witnesses were able to provide a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving.
Using automated license plate reader (ALPR) technology, deputies identified the vehicle and focused their search efforts.
A short time later, the suspect, 56-year-old Oakland resident Leonard Jenkins, was located in the 100 block of Beach Way in Moss Beach. Jenkins, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, was taken into custody without incident.
During the investigation, deputies located separate baggies containing substances believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine, along with a semi-automatic firearm, ammunition, illegal fireworks and a false registration tab.
Jenkins was arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on several charges including PC 245(A)(2) – Assault with a firearm, PC 29800(a)(1) – Felon in possession of a firearm and HS 11351 – Possession of a controlled substance for sale.
