VIDEO. At San Mateo County, we strive to make walking and bicycling safe and comfortable for everyone. The Office of Sustainability is leading our efforts toward that goal through the creation of an Active Transportation Plan. The Office of Sustainability works to create more livable communities through multiple programs and initiatives, including our active transportation program which encourages walking and biking. The Active Transportation Plan seeks to help make walking and biking safe and comfortable for everyone in the unincorporated areas of the county.
What’s Happening Now
We have completed a draft of the Unincorporated San Mateo County Active Transportation Plan and are ready to share it with you. We invite you to:

- Join us at one of our upcoming Facebook Live or virtual pop-in meetings. For the virtual meetings, please register and drop in anytime and for any duration to ask questions and discuss the plan with County staff. You will receive a link to join the meeting upon registration. View details.

Draft Plan
Over the last 18 months, we’ve heard how important biking and walking is to our community. A draft of the Unincorporated San Mateo County Active Transportation Plan in now complete. This will help shape the future of walking and biking in San Mateo County. Download the Executive Summary in English or the Executive Summary en Español or the plan and appendices that are linked in the blue box.
If you’d like to share your input on specific recommendations in the Plan or Appendices, you can explore those through the interactive documents below and comment directly within the documents.
