PRESS RELEASE. From the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Gretchen Spiker on March 31st, 2026.

Meet Captain Eamonn Allen, newly appointed Chief of Police Services for Half Moon Bay and leader of our Coastside Patrol Bureau.

Captain Allen’s connection to the Coastside began in his teens when his family moved to El Granada. He is honored to serve the Coastside, a community near and dear to his heart and one that his family still maintains strong ties with, especially the Coastside horse community.

His career with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office began in 2003, when he was hired as a Correctional Officer, before quickly being promoted to Deputy Sheriff. Captain Allen spent the majority of his early career as a deputy on patrol, serving the North Fair Oaks area of unincorporated Redwood City as well as the Coastside.

Throughout his career, Captain Allen rose through the ranks and has worked in nearly every facet of the Sheriff’s Office, including the Corrections, Court Security, Patrol, Professional Standards and Transit Bureaus.

In January 2023, while working as an acting Captain, many here will remember his steady leadership during the tragic Half Moon Bay mass shooting, when he led the apprehension of the suspect and later acted as the Public Information Officer. In April 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Captain, a role he has honorably held since. He has gained valuable experience, spending the past three years as the Millbrae Police Bureau Chief, and is eager to bring this experience and his spirit of community collaboration to Half Moon Bay and the Coast.

“Our Coastside is in capable hands with Captain Eamonn Allen overseeing policing services for Half Moon Bay and our unincorporated communities,” said Supervisor Ray Mueller, who represents the Third District. “Captain Allen brings a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing the Coast. I look forward to working closely with Sheriff Ken Binder, Captain Allen and our deputies to keep our communities safe.”

“It’s an honor to serve the Coastside community alongside the deputies and professional staff who work every day to keep our residents safe. I’m grateful for the trust our County, City and Sheriff’s Office leaders have placed in me. I look forward to seeing you out in the community – please don’t hesitate to stop and say hello,” Captain Allen said.
