Lost Car Found at Montara State Beach After Valentine’s Storms

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

PHOTOS by Dan Stegnik. Yesterday, Dan took these pictures. In 2017, locals Dan and Thu-ha Nguyen spent a lot of time rappelling down the Montara cliffs to get the space where Richard Moss’s Hyundai Tiburon went over the cliff at low tides. They tried diving at high tides until the sand came in and hid the ocean floor.

Thu-ha, also put a team together (Craig Glover, Sara Dunn, Brian Overfelt (from EG) and Andy Erskine, from Pacifica) to search the area on jet skis with the PowerRay robot. The $1,900 Power Ray was used to search the murky water using primarily sonar to detect Richard’s car, but they found nothing.

Dan and Thu-ha also tried diving at high tides until the sands came in and hid the ocean floor.

Dan still likes to check the site regularly.

He took these pictures yesterday. He is thinking 2016 Prius, but he is planning on rappelling down to get the VIN number, today, so stay tuned.

It is not likely to be Richard, but it someone’s loved one. Thanks Dan, for for keeping an eye on the coast.
