I want to let you know, after nine years as the Executive Director of The HEAL Project (THP) I will be leaving at the end of the month. I am transitioning from a job that I love to return to another local environmental education organization that is dear to my heart.
In June, I will become the Ranch Coordinator at UC Elkus Ranch. It will be like coming home since I was an educator at Elkus for years before I came to THP.
THP’s Associate Director, Fiona Benjamin [email protected] will step into the role of Acting Director while she and THP’s board decide how to fill my position in the next few months.
Fiona is an organized and clear-thinking leader who has been promoted through the ranks of THP over the last five years. And THP’s staff is top notch. THP has never been stronger or in a better position to thrive after my departure and I am happy to leave it in such capable hands.

Amy joined The HEAL Project in March, 2015. Amy holds a B.A. in Psychology and Biology from UC San Diego. She brings more than two decades of youth environmental education and extensive coastside community leadership experience to the organization.

Memorandum from the CUSD Agenda
As part of our goal to embed additional enrichment opportunities and have gardens on every campus, we are engaging in an expanded partnership with The HEAL Project. THP is a local nonprofit organization that educates and inspires students to make healthy choices for themselves and their world. THP offers health, environment, and agriculture lessons at school sites, in the classroom, and at the San Mateo County School Farm. This includes the incorporation of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Common Core State Standards in highimpact programs for environmental literacy and nutrition education.
Using LCAP funding, we are partnering with THP to support us with the services described in THP MOU, which include the following:
● Provide an instructor to deliver THP California standards-based curriculum to second and third-grade students for 26 weeks of the school year (3rd grade in Fall, 2nd Grade in Spring) during regular school hours for three school years: 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27
● Supervise and maintain a dynamic learning environment that is fun, productive, manages behaviors, and ensures an optimal learning environment
FISCAL ANALYSIS
The cost for school years 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27 contract will not exceed $210,000 total or $70,000 allocated for each year. This service will be paid using Local Control Accountability Program funding.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that our CUSD Governing Board approve this MOU governing partnership with The HEAL Project for implementation of services during the 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27 school years.

Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD) Trustee Meetings ~ 2nd Thursday @ 6:00pm
The Cabrillo Unified School District School Governing Board is comprised of five school board members who are elected by the local community. The role of the school board is to provide leadership and oversight of the district. The Board ensures that the district is responsive to the values, beliefs, and priorities of the community.
The term of office for school board members elected in regular elections is four years, beginning on the second Friday in December after their election. The board meets at least once a month at the District Office, 498 Kelly Avenue, Half Moon Bay. Meetings are open to the public and are usually held on Thursday nights at 6 pm. A portion of the board meeting consists of a “closed” session for the purpose of discussing confidential matters, such as personnel or student issues.

The Board works with the Superintendent to fulfill its major responsibilities, which includes:
- Setting the direction for the district
- Establishing an effective and efficient organizational structure for the district
- Providing support to the Superintendent and staff
- Ensuring accountability to the public for the performance of the district’s school
- Providing community leadership and advocacy on behalf of students, the district’s educational program, and public education
- Ensuring that the district is meeting its commitments to parents/guardians, all members of the community, employees, the state of California, laws pertaining to education, and established policies of the district
