EARTHQUAKES and TSUNAMIS and the COAST
What to Expect and How to Be Ready!
Date: Wednesday, September 24th, 2025
Class Instruction: 6:30p.m to 8:00p.m.
Each year for the past 6 years, Coastside CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) along with the CFPD (Coastside Fire Protection District) and HMB ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service), have used the idea of a large, regional earthquake as the scenario for an all-hands, neighborhood-by-neighborhood drill and a Coastside-wide communication exercise. Exercise events like this are crucial opportunities to enhance our readiness and strengthen our community’s response to a major disaster.
In years past DART (the Disaster Airlift Response Team) has joined in the fun and this year we are especially excited that the San Mateo County MRC (Medical Reserve Corps) will participate as well. We also hope to host observers from the City of Half Moon Bay, and the Sheriff’s Office.
Please join the webinar on 9/24 for action-oriented ways you can prepare yourself for emergencies and the ways your neighborhood may be participating in this year’s exercise. Even if you cannot join this webinar, check with your CERT neighborhood lead to see if your neighborhood is participating, so you can join your neighbors in the Coastside Great ShakeOut event on Saturday, September 27th, starting at 10:00 am at your neighborhood’s rally point.
