Azar Lawrence is an internationally celebrated saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, and one of the great torchbearers of spiritual jazz. Emerging from the powerful Los Angeles music tradition, he’s known for his deeply expressive sound, high‑energy performances, and his belief in music as a force for healing, elevation, and cultural memory.
This performance highlights music from Lawrence’s new recording Turn the Music Up, a vibrant chapter in his catalog that celebrates joy, ancestral memory, and creative freedom. Over his extraordinary career, Lawrence has performed with giants such as McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Elvin Jones, Buster Williams, and Pharoah Sanders. His sound channels the spirit of John Coltrane while remaining unmistakably his own—expansive, soulful, and spiritually charged. With The Azar Lawrence Experience, he brings this legacy forward through a powerful ensemble rooted in master musicianship, improvisational fire, and deep spiritual intention.
The Azar Lawrence Experience is more than a concert — it is a transmission of sound, spirit, history, and uplift.
