PRESS RELEASE. From the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office on January 30th, 2025.
HALF MOON BAY, Calif. – A suspect is in custody following an attempted homicide that occurred Wednesday night at a property in Half Moon Bay involving known individuals.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, shortly before 7 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to Coastside Fire
Protection District Station 40 after a man arrived there to report an earlier crime.
Deputies with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fire station and spoke with the victim, a resident of Pacifica, who said that earlier in the evening, an altercation involving a firearm occurred at Azevedo Feed located at 1825 Miramontes Point Rd. in Half Moon Bay.
The victim, who works at Azevedo Feed, alleged his employer, 43-year-old Thomas J. Azevedo, lured him to a remote part of the property under the guise that a fence needed repair. While in the remote area of the property, Azevedo allegedly brandished a firearm, pointed it at the victim’s head and pulled the trigger, but the gun did not go off. During the disturbance, Azevedo allegedly pulled the trigger several more times as the victim struggled to take the gun. The gun eventually went off, firing into the air. No injuries were reported.
Deputies responded to the property and located Azevedo, who was taken into custody without incident. A Judge approved a gun violence restraining order, which was issued and served to the suspect. More than a dozen firearms were safely recovered from the property. As a result of the investigation, Azevedo was arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for Attempted Homicide – PC 664/187(a).
