With DashLoop by DoorDash, your meals from participating restaurants come in durable, reusable containers at no extra cost. Just enjoy your food and return the container to a return bin nearby—together, we’ll cut waste and protect Half Moon Bay’s Coastside communities.
Half Moon Bay, California (January 27, 2026) – Today, the San Mateo Sustainability Department, Dispatch Goods, and DoorDash announced the launch of DashLoop – a reusable food container pilot program in Half Moon Bay and surrounding Coastside communities to reduce single-use waste.
Starting in February 2026, the three-month pilot program will introduce reusable containers for all DoorDash orders from participating local restaurants. The program will enable customers to receive their orders in reusable containers by default at no additional cost, with return bins available on-site at participating restaurants and at other designated locations. The reusable containers will be supplied, collected, cleaned, and redistributed by Dispatch Goods, DoorDash’s logistics partner for the program.
Specifics of DashLoop include:
- The program will last for three months starting February 1, 2026 and will be available in Half Moon Bay and surrounding Coastside areas, including Montara, Moss Beach, Princeton by the Sea, and El Granada.
- Customers ordering from participating DoorDash merchants enrolled in DashLoop will receive their orders in reusable containers automatically at no additional cost.
- 10+ restaurants will be participating in DashLoop, including
- Spice Me Thai Cuisine
- Lamas Peruvian and Mexican Cuisine
- Mavericks Creperie
- Ketch Harbor Pub
- Fattoria E Mare
- Flying Fish & Grill
- Ciya Mediterranean Cuisine
- Full Hearts Arcade and Eats
- Sam’s Cafe
- San Benito Deli
- San Benito Cantina
- India Beach Restaurant
- Used containers can be dropped off at any designated return bin in participating Coastside restaurants and locations, making returns easy and convenient.

DoorDash and local partners hosted a preview event on January 26 at participating restaurant San Benito House, Cantina and Deli, providing an inside look at how DashLoop works ahead of the program’s February launch.
This innovative program reflects a growing interest among cities, businesses, and consumers to address the environmental impact of single-use packaging as food delivery continues to grow. According to data from Dispatch Goods, reusable containers can cut CO₂ emissions by over 60% per use and reduce waste by up to 98% when compared to single-use compostable options. By integrating reusable packaging directly into the delivery experience, the program is designed to reduce single-use waste and provide merchants and customers with more sustainable alternatives.
“Supporting local businesses and communities is central to our mission at DoorDash, and that means testing new ideas that strengthen local commerce and long-term sustainability,” said Sueli Shaw, Head of Social Impact at DoorDash. “Working alongside restaurants, San Mateo County, and the City of Half Moon Bay, this cross-sector collaboration pilots a practical model for reusable packaging.”
“The City of Half Moon Bay has a longstanding history of advancing sustainability initiatives that protect our coastline, reduce waste, and minimize our community’s environmental impact,” said Half Moon Bay Mayor Debbie Ruddock. “We’re excited that DoorDash is conducting a pilot program that aligns with these values by exploring new approaches to reducing single-use waste within the food delivery ecosystem, while supporting local businesses and the broader community.”
“The County is committed to reducing single-use plastic and other foodware waste that pollute our ocean and beaches,” said San Mateo County Board of Supervisor Ray Mueller. “This pilot showcases our dedication to fostering innovative partnerships that promote sustainability and protect our coastal ecosystems for future generations.”
“As a small business, we’re constantly balancing costs, convenience, and our responsibility to the community,” said Chris Cheeseman, owner and business manager of the San Benito House, Cantina & Deli. “DashLoop gives us the opportunity to reduce packaging waste without adding complexity or additional costs to our operations. It will also help us respond to growing customer demand for more sustainable options. We’re excited to participate in a program that reflects our values and strengthens our community.”
