San Mateo County 2023 Agricultural Crop Report ~ Vegetable harvest up $6M.

Inflation and the high cost of living has San Mateo County residents turning to Food Banks. The Supervisors recently provided $2M in crucial funding. I know there are food distributions at Coastside Hope, Pillar Ridge mobile home park, the Library, Abundant Grace and the ALAS house. Am I missing any? If you have time, volunteer. Puente.

The San Mateo County Supervisors adopted a resolution establishing a Domestic Violence High-Risk Multidisciplinary Team. The Executive office will now develop staffing, training and funding.

San Mateo County’s Commission on the Status of Women calls for durable & coordinated investment in child care, women’s equity and financial literacy. The movement is called “Fund the Future”. Without affordable child care, moms can’t get the best job they might be qualified for. If they can’t get the best job, then they can’t thrive and nor will their kids. The Commission made recommendations, all of which mean nothing without consistent funding.

Half Moon Bay’s Pullman Ditch flooding is caused by a large watershed and Rocket Farm’s impervious surfaces all of which makes development difficult as the Miramar neighborhood is constantly defending their homes from flooding. Check out the videos and the map of the watershed. When will the City of HMB mitigate stormwater? When they get grant funding … and grant hunting costs staff time and the Coastside rarely meets the grant’s competitive requirements. Grab a bucket.

Grab a beverage and a comfy chair for a very thought provoking read. Montara Water and Sanitary District Director Bill Softky wrote an essay titled “Yes in My Front Yard ~ the Montara Dark Park”. This essay was provoked by the National Park Service’s GGNRA plans for Montara Mountain.

The Village of the Coastside presents “Meeting the Challenge of Solo Aging” with Dr. Sara Zeff Geber. There are lots of seniors whose spouses and friends have passed away and kids are far away. What can they do? San Mateo County recently declared Loneliness as a health emergency. Dr Geber has some ideas. Have a listen.
