Scoopity Scoop on Pillar Point Harbor’s Humpback Whale: Humpback Whale(s) In Pillar Point Harbor Chomping on the Anchovies ~ Paddlers Please Stay 100 Yards Away and Boats Go Slow

The Coastside Fire Protection District announced Republic Service’s Ox Mountain landfill has purchased the Pilarcitos Quarry to extend the landfill facility into the next valley. Check out the geography as I included a map in the post. I wonder what kind of permit they will need for that so stay tuned…

The 555 Kelly petitioners promised to throw down another petition after the lease agreement with Mercy Housing is negotiated so this story is far from over.

Last week I mentioned that the SFPUC was going to remediate the chopping off on Montara Mountain. This week the San Mateo County Planning Director says the National Park Service’s Golden Gate National Regional Area’s Rancho Corral de Tierra’s plans, also known as GGNRA’s Rancho plans, are exempt from County approvals. However, they do need Coastal Commission consistency consultation for the County’s Land Use Plan and adherence to the Coastal Commission’s Coastal Act.

Half Moon Bay’s 880 Stone Pine Cove farmworker housing project discovered two Red-legged frogs…Fish and Wildlife moved them to Pilarcitos Creek. The biological survey consultant contract has been increased to make sure no “takings” of other wildlife happen. Taking fines range from $25-$50k.

San Mateo County Planning housing element’s second submittal was rejected by State ~ Planning continues to work with Housing Community Development, aka HCD, for their third submittal and considers it as a high priority as state funds can be withheld without compliance.

The Montara Water and Sanitary District is going to host high-definition-radar units for ocean currents research to inform Coast Guard search and rescue missions. MWSD hosts a bunch of other scientific telemetry on their office property. If you have a kid interested in science this might be a good place to start.

Dream JOB! Coastside County Water District (CCWD) is looking for Customer Service Specialist II. It pays $80-97k a year with a supportive team environment and a walking or biking commute!

Take the survey for the Pescadero Community Space ~ Picnic? Music? Artists? Playground? They were awarded $2M for the space and the survey is useful to them for direction.

The Coastside Buzz Calendar has lots of events to check out AND peruse the Coastviews Music and Entertainment Guide which has all the music from Pescadero to Pacifica and in-between, every week all in one place.
