Approval of Agreement for Modernization of Central Kitchen at HMBHS

Due to its geographical location, CUSD is susceptible to road closures that affect the delivery of food from vendors to its various campuses. CUSD has identified the old “Print Shop” as a space into which the functions of the HMBHS kitchen could expand. The integration of the current kitchen space with the old Print Shop space offers an opportunity for the design and construction of a CUSD Central Kitchen that will provide CUSD the opportunity to not be affected by the closures of Highway 1 and/or Highway 92.

Additionally, as a result of this endeavor, the athletic training room which currently functions in the old Print Shop will be moved into a renovated old Student Store which will be expanded to include an adjacent custodial storage and closet.

Furthermore, the infrastructure for this Central Kitchen modernization would allow for the integration and use of an electric busses fleet that would serve as storage of power during emergencies.

Electric Buses Update Presentation

CUSD is seeking to replace its bus fleet for increased efficiency, lessened environmental impact, and responsiveness to state legal mandates ahead.

CUSD’s Governing Board has authorized staff to explore grants that will support the acquisition of electric buses to transport our students with disabilities. CUSD only transports students with disabilities to and from school.

Staff will present an update to the Governing Board on ways to secure a fleet of electric buses to transport its students and how to use the electric fleet to serve as backup power for the proposed modernization of the HMBHS Central Kitchen during emergencies.
