Nonprofit Conservation Organization Invites Applications for Volunteer Leadership Positions

(Palo Alto, Calif.) – Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), a 45-year-old nonprofit that protects open space on the Peninsula and in the South Bay for the benefit of all, today announced a public search for new board members. Expanding POST’s roster of volunteer board members will help to drive best governance practices, further our mission and vision, and advance POST’s commitment to expanding diversity, equity and inclusion.

“We’re excited to be broadening POST’s volunteer leadership team with several new board members. Conducting an open search is a newer practice not just for us, but for the nonprofit sector in general. We are committed to continued strong governance and bringing new voices and diverse perspectives to every aspect of our work. A public search helps serve both of these goals,” said Suzanne Sullivan, chair of POST’s Board. “One of POST’s core values is that the outdoors is for everybody. To deliver on that, we want to ensure that our leaders both share that belief and represent the full breadth of our community.”

POST’s Board of Directors informs the nonprofit’s strategic direction, oversees its financial health and ensures that best practices in management and leadership are followed. Board member terms are three years long, and members are eligible to serve up to four consecutive terms. POST’s board members attend multiple meetings and events throughout the year, serving as ambassadors to expand POST’s influence and effectiveness with communities and organizations across the region.

“An ideal new POST board member is both an innovator and coalition-builder,” added Jennifer Lynch, chair of the board public search task force. “They share our passion for protecting open spaces and bring energy, strategic thinking, a high level of skill and commitment to everything they do.”

Interested candidates are invited to learn more here. Applications will be accepted until Friday, September 9. POST’s board member search is being supported by the Potrero Group.

Make a positive impact in the Bay Area by joining Peninsula Open Space Trust’s (POST) board, and support our vision of creating a network of protected lands where people and nature connect and thrive.

POST’s board serves a vital role by providing leadership, expertise, perspective and guidance to POST staff. We have just concluded a yearlong strategic planning process that has pushed us to deepen and mature our work related to protecting biodiversity, mitigating the impacts of climate change and ensuring equitable access to nature for all the residents of our region. Over the next five years, POST will take a systems approach, prioritizing land protection that builds more resilient and adaptive landscapes while also deepening connections with traditionally underserved and excluded communities to benefit both people and nature.

Given POST’s ambitious plans for its future, a diverse, deeply engaged, inclusive and collaborative board is necessary for POST’s long-term success. We are looking for multiple individuals who want to help us co-create the next chapter of increased impact, growth and sustainability for POST. The priority deadline for applications is September 9, 2022. Click the link below to learn more about this search process and to engage with the Potrero Group who is leading our search process.

Peninsula Open Space Trust seeks new board members to support their vision of creating a network of protected lands where people and nature connect and thrive.

Since its founding in 1977, Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) has protected more than 80,000 acres of permanent open space, farms and parkland in San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties in the South Bay and Peninsula areas of Northern California. These lands are now part of the National Park system, National Wildlife Refuge system, California State Parks, county and city parks, regional preserves, and private farmland.

POST’s primary focus over its 40+ year history has been on the first part of the mission: the protection of land. As they have sharpened their knowledge of equity and history, POST has come to understand the many ways in which the legacies of exclusion and racism in conservation are alive today. Their focus continues to evolve from solely protecting land for a variety of conservation benefits to ensuring this land also benefits all people in an equitable manner.

POST’s board serves a vital role by providing leadership, expertise, perspective, and guidance to POST staff. Given POST’s ambitious plans for its future, a diverse, deeply engaged, inclusive, and collaborative board is necessary for POST’s long-term success. They are looking for multiple individuals who want to help them co-create the next chapter of increased impact, growth, and sustainability for POST.

Location

As a place-based organization, POST will prioritize candidates who live in, work in, or have deep ties to the Peninsula and South Bay.
