VIDEO. From San Mateo County Office of Sustainability in partnership with the San Mateo Resource Conservation District and South Coast Sustainable on March 22nd, 2022.
Sea level rise is increasing flooding and accelerating coastal erosion, affecting what we love about living on the South Coast of San Mateo County. Our communities need to know what to expect and what we can start doing today to build our resilience to these changes.
The San Mateo County Office of Sustainability, San Mateo Resource Conservation District, and South Coast Sustainable are hosting an online discussion about what sea level rise impacts mean for the South Coast so that we can collaboratively explore ways to adapt and protect highways, businesses, agriculture, coastal habitats, and other critical resources.
At this meeting, we will build upon past discussions with South Coast community members by providing an overview of the results from the South Coast Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Report and asking community members to help guide adaptation priorities moving forward.
Community feedback from this meeting will be included in the final report, which is currently being finalized and prepared for public review.

Dear South Coast Community Members and Stakeholders,
Thank you for joining us last Wednesday night to discuss the projected impact of sea level rise on the South Coast and what we can do to make our communities safer. We are grateful to be able to have these conversations with such active and thoughtful community members.
Please take a few minutes to fill out our post-event survey to let us know how you experienced the event, and how we might improve future meetings.
Many poll participants indicated they would like to have follow-up discussions on broader community resilience and capacity building, and we will be scheduling an informal virtual listening session in coming weeks to discuss this topic. For those that have additional questions or would like to have a follow-up conversation with a staff member, please reach out to [email protected].
For those that registered but couldn’t make it, please see the meeting recording.
We encourage all community members to continue to explore the South Coast Story Map in English or Spanish and take the survey at the end, the results of which will be captured in the final report, anticipated for public release this Spring.
We look forward to continued conversations and collaboration with the community.
