PODCAST. This cradle to grave exploration of Americans cooking with gas: history, marketing, public health, science, economics and how other countries have responded to reducing their carbon footprint in the face of global warming…induction.
From The Sporkful Podcast
Which kind of stove do you like better: gas or electric? This debate, and the ad campaigns that have fueled it, have been raging for over a century. While more people in the U.S. today have electric, gas stoves have won the battle for prestige — chefs prefer it. But now, the gas stove is at the center of a much bigger fight about climate change, as gas companies use the gas stove to try to ensure their future.
Sporkful producer Andres O’Hara explains, then tries to convince Dan, a gas stove loyalist, to try a different way of cooking. Hint: It uses magnets.

Correction: In a previous version of this episode, Brady Seals, manager at the Rocky Mountain Institute, said that nearly 1 in 2 children who live in homes with a gas stove are at an increased risk for experiencing asthma symptoms, versus children who live in homes with an electric stove. That number is incorrect, and we have removed it from the episode.
