Sewer Upgrades Coming Your Way
This year MWSD will spend $1,985,272 to continue the critical maintenance and upgrading of our aging local sewer system.
Planned in accordance with the District’s 7-year Capital Improvement Plan, our 2020-21 work will focus on sewer mains needing the most immediate attention.
We also always include funds in our yearly budget for emergency work and ‘spot’ repairs (unplanned, yet necessary repairs that occur in aging pipeline systems).
Our work includes construction and rehabilitation of sanitary sewer mains primarily by pipe bursting.
Pipe bursting is a less invasive and faster method of pipeline rehabilitation – requiring just two access excavations rather than digging out the entire pipeline.
Once the access pits are complete, equipment threads a new pipe through the existing pipeline.
The old pipe is ‘burst’ in place by this new pipeline during installation.
Homes and businesses along Virginia Ave. from Etheldore St. to Cabrillo Highway; on Wave Ave. between Terrace Ave. and Lancaster Blvd., and on Harte St. between Birch and Cedar Sts., will see sewer main – and sewer lateral (the private pipe connection to your building – the property owner’s responsibility) – replacements.
Our contractor will contact you if they need access to the sewer lateral on your property.
We will also plan to complete phase 1A of our large sewer crossing of the Cabrillo Highway and complete preparations for a second crossing phase.
