VIDEO. The first Sheriff contract was signed 9 years ago in 2011, when the City of Half Moon Bay disbanded the City police force in order to reduce costs.   Contracting with the Sheriff resulted in an 18% decreased in the city police budget at that time.

At the 6/16/2020. Bob Nisbet, City Manager of Half Moon Bay, estimates that $750,000 to $1,000,000 is saved per year by contracting with San Mateo County Sheriff.

Agenda for 6/16/2020 City of Half Moon Bay City Council Meeting

This year, per Covid, the Sheriff submitted a contract, in March for $3.4 million. When asked by the City to see if there ways to save more money due to the fact the City’s hotels are producing TOT (Transient Occupancy Tax).

The Sheriff office was able to cut $400,000, bring the contract to just over  $3 million.

Have a listen as Bob Nisbet and Coastside Sheriff, Saul Lopez explain the teamwork.
