Learn to sail! This is a safe and fun way for youth ages 8-16 to learn how to sail in either an Optimist (Opti) or Laser. Both boats are extremely popular recreational dinghies that also feature prominently in competition. Most certainly STEM! (science, technology, engineering, and math).
This class teaches basic sailing as well as developing confidence and seamanship. Although no experience is necessary, campers must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket.
In our fun-filled camps, students will learn:
• Basic sailing skills, in their own boats
• Water safety skills
• How to read the wind
• Critical thinking skills, as they navigate a boat among a small group of other boats
• Teamwork, as they work in small groups to rig and sail boats
• Leadership skills, as they skipper a boat and direct a crew member
Camp is M-F from 8:30am to 3:30pm each day. Campers will need to bring their own lunches.
Sign up now—boat availability is limited and assigned based on early registration and experience.
Registration is not guaranteed until full payment is received, and liability/medical release form is signed & turned in to the office.
