Study Session Agenda for 10/24/2023 – “Sheriff’s Office Oversight in San Mateo County”

 

Redwood City From the Office of the San Mateo County Supervisors

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will consider civilian oversight of the Sheriff’s Office at a specially convened meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023.

The study session is being held at the request of Board President Dave Pine and Board Vice President Warren Slocum. No official action will be taken. The Board, however, may provide staff with direction for future meetings or actions.

The study session will be held at 9 a.m. in the Board Chambers, 400 County Center, Redwood City. The public can provide comments in-person and virtually. Live interpretation in Spanish will be available. See the agenda for details.

The goal of the study session is to provide the Board with information about community-police relations, existing oversight, civilian oversight and the range of models or forms that oversight can take. Local and national experts, advocacy groups and law enforcement representatives have been invited to speak.

The agenda includes presentations by San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus and representatives from:

 

– San Mateo County Attorney’s Office

– National Association of Civilian Oversight for Law Enforcement (NACOLE)

– John W. Gardner Center for Youth and their Communities, Stanford University

– Coalition for a Safer San Mateo County

– Susan Manheimer, Strategic Site Liaison, Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice and Retired Police Chief

– San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff’s Association

– San Mateo County Organization of Sheriff’s Sergeants

– San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office
