Subject:  Appointments to the Agricultural Advisory Committee

RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation for appointments to the Agricultural Advisory Committee, each representing Public member, for an initial partial term ending September 30, 2025:

A) Erik Hagstrom and

B) Marilyn Johnson.

BACKGROUND
The Agricultural Advisory Committee actively assists in the preservation of agriculture throughout San Mateo County through advice and recommendation to the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors.

DISCUSSION
Erik Hagstrom and Marilyn Johnson are each being recommended to serve as a Public member on the Agricultural Advisory Committee for seats carrying existing partial terms ending September 30, 2025, vacated by former members Judith Humburg and Jonathan Winslow who previously resigned.

Erik Hagstrom is a resident of Half Moon Bay and brings a breadth of professional experience to the Agricultural Advisory Committee. As an Associate Planner for Solano County, he works with farmers and ranchers in accessing resources and proposing policy to the Solano County Board of Supervisors with the intention of preserving agricultural land and production. He brings experience in economic development plannind for food processing, addressing agricultural waste, and the deployment of energy resources on farms and ranches. He also has experience as a farm hand on two dairy ranches and as a member of the Solano County Local Food System Alliance.

Marilyn Johnson is a resident of Half Moon Bay and brings extensive experience having previously served on the Agricultural Advisory Committee for 16 years. Having come from three generations of San Mateo County coastside farmers and with her previous positive experience on the committee, Marilyn is eager to contribute once again for the benefit of the agriculture community. Additionally, she brings local civic and volunteer experience as a 4-H Project and Community Leader, Future Farmers of America Advisor, and Johnston House Foundation Board Member.
