This is a complex issue – balancing the need for more bike lanes with the need for parking for beach access. On the one hand, creating safe and accessible bike lanes is important, especially on a scenic route like Highway 1. On the other hand, removing 120 parking spaces seems like a lot, and could make it difficult for people to visit Surfers Beach.
Do you think there might be an alternative solution that could address both concerns? Perhaps a reduced number of parking spaces could be removed, or some creative parking solutions could be implemented, such as stacked parking or valet parking.
So now Caltrans proposes something right for a change in wanting to get dangerous and congestion-creating parking off the side of the highway at Surfer’s Beach and Sam’s (one death of a Sam’s customer so far) and to create a safe path for it’s obligation to maintain the Pacific Coast Bicycle Route and we are supposed to be unhappy about it?
