San Mateo Supervisors Approve $20k to Help Castillo Hemp Seed Workers Survive Labor Violations

VIDEO.  From the San Mateo County Supervisor’s meeting Tuesday 3/9/2021 at 9:00am.

Supervisors voted 5-0 to approve $20k to help the Castillo hemp seed workers to survive after having worked 8 weeks without pay. Coastside Hope will receive the funds and will continue to help these workers make rent, car payments, food, find new jobs ~ Critical needs.

Ayudando Latinos a Sonar (ALAS) was also awarded $10k for critical needs for farm workers.

  1. Measure K: Recommendation to:
    1. A)  Adopt a resolution authorizing a one-time grant to Ayudando Latinos a Sonar (ALAS) to provide water to farmworkers for a total amount not-to-exceed $10,000, and authorizing the County Manager, or designee, to execute the grant agreement; and
    2. B)  Authorize an Appropriation Transfer Request (ATR) appropriating $10,000 from Non-Departmental Services Measure K Loans and Grants to Non-Departmental Services Miscellaneous Other Contributions to fund the grant.
    1. A)  Adopt a resolution authorizing a one-time grant to Coastside Hope to support their Critical Needs program, providing financial assistance to residents impacted by loss of income, for a total amount not-to-exceed $20,000, and authorizing the County Manager, or designee, to execute the grant agreement; and
    2. B)  Authorize an Appropriation Transfer Request (ATR) appropriating $20,000 from Non-Departmental Services Measure K Loans and Grants to Non-Departmental Services Miscellaneous Other Contributions to fund the grant.
