Redwood City — Ahead of the July Fourth holiday, County Supervisor Ray Mueller, Sheriff Christina Corpus and other local officials will gathered at Surfer’s Beach on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2024 to launch a public safety campaign reminding visitors to “Be Smart. Play Safe. Stay Aware.”
BACKGROUND: Drowning deaths are on the rise in the United States and the San Mateo County coast is not immune.
In anticipation of an influx of visitors for the upcoming holiday, including many from out of town who may be unfamiliar with coastal hazards, Supervisor Mueller, Sheriff Christina Corpus, CALFIRE Deputy Chief Jonathan Cox and other officials launched a new safety campaign.
The campaign will include flashing roadside signs along the major roadways of Highway 1 and Highway 92 as well as sharing information on social media.
