PRESS RELEASE. From Montara Water and Sanitary District on May 1st, 2025.
MWSD General Manager Clemens Heldmaier announced that Director Dekker will soon resign from his Board seat. To ensure a smooth transition, the Board is advised to prepare for a potential appointment. Once his resignation becomes official, the Board must follow the appointment process set forth in Government code 1780 allowing for 60 days to appoint a new Director.
The vacant seat represents Divisions 1, 3, and 5 and will serve the remainder of the current term until November 2026. Staff recommends posting the attached public notice to inform the community of the upcoming vacancy and invite interested candidates to submit applications.
If anyone is interested in residing in District 1, 3, or 5, and willing to step up to civic service and public work, please reach out to him or any of the other board members.

MWSD Director Peter Decker has indicated a need in the near future to resign his Board position. While his departure date is not yet known, MWSD has started the process to seek applicants from the community for appointment to the Board of Directors. The selected appointee will serve for the balance of Director Dekker’s unexpired term, i.e. until November 2026.
Serve your community and ensure decisions are made locally
The MWSD Board of Directors manages the affairs of the District. Through their bi-monthly meetings they set policy, enact appropriate resolutions or ordinances, approve all payments to vendors, review and approve the budget, set Sewer Service Charge rates, establish connection charges, hire staff, approve contracts and other necessary actions needed to carry out the business of the District.

Registered voters residing within MWSD Electoral Divisions 1, 3 and 5 may apply. Check your Division online.
How to Apply
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit the following:
- A completed application form. Copy available at MWSD, 8888 Cabrillo Hwy, Montara, CA 94037.
- A letter of interest outlining:
- Relevant background, experience, and qualifications.
- Reasons for seeking appointment.
- Key priorities or issues they believe the district should address.
- A resume (optional but encouraged).

Regular meetings are 7:30pm on the first and third Thursday of each month. They used to held at the District office at 8888 Cabrillo Hwy, next to Pt Montara Lighthouse and Hostel.

Services
Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM) – MWSD is a member of SAM, the agency that collects and cleans our Coastside community’s wastewater before it enters the ocean. SAM meets monthly on the 4th Monday at 7:30pm. Jim Harvey and Scott Boyd presently serve as SAM board members.
Recology of the Coast – MWSD has contracted with Recology of the Coast for trash pickup, recycling, and waste hauling.
Visit County Solid Waste Department for more information about recycling, composting, etc.
