UPDATE: From the San Mateo County Executive’s Office for San Mateo County Parks on December 5th, 2024 about the Mirada Surf East Fuel Reduction Project in El Granada.
The first phase of fuel reduction work San Mateo County Parks began earlier this year at Mirada Surf East in El Granada to dispose of trees and large woody is complete.
The curtain burners and fencing have been removed.
The Natural Resource Management Park staff continue to monitor the area and recently removed invasive pokeweed.
The trail that connects from Mirada Surf East to Quarry Park is open.
Hikers will see silt fencing installed to stabilize the area during winter conditions and prevent sediment from spreading to roads and nearby wetlands.
The final phase of this project will begin spring 2025 when equipment is brought in to grind up remaining woody debris, which will be spread around the area as mulch.
The mulch produced through this process will be distributed on site.
