Releases Impressive List of Elected Officials Who Have Endorsed
Menlo Park City Council member Ray Mueller announced today he is running for the San Mateo County Supervisor District 3 Seat in the 2022 election. District 3 is currently represented by Supervisor Don Horsley who will be termed out of office in 2022. District 3 includes the cities of Atherton, Half Moon Bay, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, Woodside and parts of Belmont and Menlo Park. It also includes numerous unincorporated areas mainly in the coastal areas of the County.
Mueller has been elected to the Menlo Park City Council three times; twice as the lead vote getter in City wide elections in 2012 and 2016, and again recently in an uncontested District race in 2020. He served as Mayor in 2014 and 2019.
“One of the primary roles of a Supervisor is to be a problem-solver, called upon to collaborate with officials and stakeholders, to empower and bring resources to decision making that improves the lives of every San Mateo County resident. I am so very grateful for the talented public servants and elected leaders at the Federal, State, County, and City level who stand with me today as we announce our campaign, and look forward to working with them as we bring our campaign to each doorstep in the District,” said Mueller.
Councilmember Mueller’s endorsement list features close to 100 current and former elected officials, notably including Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, California State Controller Betty Yee, former California State Controller Steve Westly, San Mateo County Supervisors Dave Pine and Warren Slocum, former San Mateo County Supervisors Adrienne Tissier and Tom Heuning, San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Magee, former San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Anne Campbell, State Senator Josh Becker, former State Senators Jerry Hill and Joe Simitian, Speaker Pro Tem of the California State Assembly Kevin Mullin, State Assemblymember Marc Berman, San Mateo County Tax Collector Sandie Arnott and San Mateo County Controller Juan Raigoza. Additionally, within District 3, the endorsement list includes every member of the Atherton City Council, every member of the Half Moon Bay City Council, 9 current and former Mayors in Menlo Park, 4 former Mayors in Pacifica, 4 formers Mayors in Portola Valley, seven former Mayors from San Carlos, and 3 former Mayors from Woodside.
In addition to his duties on the City Council, Ray serves as an Advisory Board Member to the nonprofit organization Committee for Green Foothills, and also as a member of the Blue Water Task Force of the San Mateo County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Additionally, Ray is proud to have served from 2014 until 2020 on the Board of Directors of LifeMoves, a leading provider of shelter/housing and supportive services throughout Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Peninsula.
Ray attended University at the College of Natural Resources at UC Berkeley, where he received his Bachelors of Science. Ray then continued his education in the Bay Area, receiving a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. While studying in law school, Ray interned at the Public Law Research Institute in San Francisco, and at the Legislative Counsel’s Office in Sacramento. Additionally, Ray holds a Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University through it’s eCornell online learning platform.
Public service is a family passion in the Mueller household. Ray’s wife, Kristen Shima, a middle school Principal, was honored in 2014 by the Association of California School Administrators as “School Administrator of the Year” for San Mateo and San Francisco Counties.
