Ayudando Latinos A Soñar or ALAS is a Latino centered nonprofit organization that began as a grassroots program in 2011. We are a recognized California Nonprofit, 501c3. The organization was born from the desire to help children and their families to feel proud of their identity and culture and amplify their voices. ALAS Founding Board of Directors continues to work tirelessly to pursue this vision in what has become a communal space of support, honoring the cultural strengths that thrive in our Latino coastal community.
Belinda is ALAS’ founder and a Board Member. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has a doctorate in Education as well as extensive experience working in community mental health in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. She is specialized in child trauma and Latino mental health. Also, she is committed to social justice advocacy and promoting healing through multicultural practices.
More on what is the Vacant House Tax
From CalMatters
“The lesson from British Columbia is that the tax needs to be applied in a fairly broad manner, and enforcement has to be done diligently, and the penalties for leaving properties vacant have to be fairly substantial,” he said. “Short of that, you’re not going to get much movement in the rental market.”
Empty Homes Tax from the City of Vancouver November 1st, 2021
The Empty Homes Tax was introduced in 2017 to help return empty and under-utilized properties to the market as long-term rental homes for people who live and work in Vancouver. Vancouver homeowners are required to submit a declaration each year to determine if their property is subject to the Empty Homes Tax. Properties deemed or declared empty in the 2021 reference year will be subject to a tax of 3% of the property’s 2021 assessed taxable value. Learn more at https://vancouver.ca/home-property-de…
