Welcome to the weekend Coastsiders.

Here is the Coastside Buzz Report for Friday July 19th, 2024

Want more sand on the beaches? Well, Pillar Point Harbor got their FINAL permit from the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary for the Spring 2025 after 10 years of state and national permitting!dredge and surfers beach sand replenishment pilot project and is a GO for

The San Mateo County Farmworker Housing Task Force has inspected 170 units. These inspections are leading to regular water monitoring for the farmworker housing, possible coastal permit exemptions for farmworker home building and San Mateo County is looking into refreshing their farm housing loan program.

Do you like parks? Granada Community Services District presented their Granada Community Park plan to the Midcoast Community Council. The questions and answers covered their biological survey, funding, parking and operations, now they are working on permitting. Go to the post to see pictures of the park.

The Half Moon Bay City Council decided not to put Measure D on the 2024 ballot. Measure D is Half Moon Bay’s 1998 voter approved growth limitation system. The council has directed staff to improve the administrative allocation process. With 4,000 plus single family homes, ADUs are a popular way to meet our housing needs as first homes for the young and last homes for seniors.

The San Mateo County Harbor District announced that the Army Corp of Engineers Water Resources Development Act will fund the initial feasibility study of Pillar Point’s Outer Harbor. They will study the damage caused by the Army Corp’s breakwater since they are the ones that caused the damage by building the breakwater. Congresswoman Anna Eshoo helped this happen.

The San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management has hired Ladris Technologies to run disaster scenario simulations for evacuations. With this information they will be able to draft risk reduction grant proposals for funding opportunities. Having analysis is the first step in gaining grant funding.

The Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM) took a big step forward by approving the design/build funding for their Force Main in Montara. They needed to get going on this because SAM is being sued by the Ecological Rights Foundation for having sewage spills from old pipes.

Pillar Point Harbor’s Johnson Pier now has a contractor organizing their mobilization for a major electrical upgrade project. There are three fishing businesses on the pier that will benefit. The pier was built in the 70s and 80s so it is pretty old. I posted some cool historical pictures, too. There is also a concept graphic of the pier’s full remodel. More grant funding needed for that too.

Half Moon Bay’s Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM) is seeking a candidate for Wastewater Operator Level II or III. The training is on-the-job and the pay is $97k-128k per year plus benefits. The candidate must be able to respond to emergency callouts within 60 minutes.

The San Mateo County Superior Court is reducing their workforce and therefore public services due to state budget cuts of $97M. Probate, divorce and other civil services will be affected.
