Text Version
The City of Half Moon Bay has applied for a $10M Grant for the Design, Planning and Construction of Kelly Ave. from the beach to downtown including the Kelly/Hwy 1 intersection. It will aim to answer the question that everyone has about the “Porkchops” which are the little islands we stand with our bikes or strollers on so that we can push the lights-go-green-please button. Most would like the porkchops removed ASAP and have the magic light button on the sidewalk but the Caltrans multi-asset project is only for maintaining the existing, rather than new designs. This grant will work on a new design.
After denying all three appeals the City of Half Moon Bay has formed a subcommittee with councilmembers Ruddock and Penrose for lease negotiations with Mercy Housing’s 555 Kelly farmworker affordable housing project. The City owns the little house and the land that it is on and therefore the land that Mercy will build on.
Coastside CERT has been funded, for the very first time, with $510k in Measure K funds to hire 13 part-time staff members over a 3 year period. This means Leadership and Instructors will be paid and that CERT can now hire a Program Communications person to help with our Spanish and Chinese populations
The San Mateo County Resource Conservation District, also known as the RCD, has been awarded a 3-year $600k grant to improve Montara’s 2nd St. stormwater runoff, planning Hwy 1 Sea Level Rise and Hwy 1/92 Fire Fuel Reduction. In particular, many would like the eucalyptus tunnel between Montara and Pacifca to be dealt with.
The 880 Stone Pine farmworker housing project has received $3.25M in grants from State Funds, the Sobrato and Chan-Zuckerberg Foundations to go towards their Construction Budget.
- In June 2024 the City allotted $1.2M from their affordable housing fund to pay for infrastructure including Coastside County Water District hook-ups. Sewer will also have to be paid for.
- In May 2024 the County approved $11.5M for grading and other ground preparation work (like digging trenches for utilities).
- Also in May 2024, the BOS awarded $6M towards buying 47 manufactured homes. $5M of that was awarded to the County as a grant from the Joe Serna Farmworker Housing Grant Homeownership Program to purchase manufactured homes for low-income farmworker families.
- In July 2023 the BOS also negotiated a loan with the City of Half Moon Bay for a $3.2M loan at 3.13% for 10 years to discharge an iBank Loan which originally funded the purchase of the property from POST (Peninsula Open Space Trust) originally for the City Corp Yard, buy the loan had to be reconfigured so that affordable housing might be built on it.
Check out the KHMB Radio interview with Jerry B. Logan of “Three on the Tree”. He is warming up for some country swing dancin’ at the HMB Odd Fellows this Saturday. Check the Buzz Calendar for the starting time. Very entertaining interview by KHMB’s Mike Dale. And Jerry B. Logan is a country loving romantic as he sings song like:
- “Cowboy’s Mona Lisa”
- “Where’s a Grown Man Go to Cry” (a heartbreak song born in an almond orchard)
- And “Tears of a Fool” (more heartbreak from the same girl)
Go see Jerry for more swing!
