San Mateo County Vote registration. Voter registration closes on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024 for the November 5, 2024 Presidential General Election. Voters must register by this date to be eligible to vote non-provisionally in this election. Voter registration forms postmarked prior to or on this date are accepted.

The Coastside County Water District’s 2024 Recycled Water feasibility study takes a fresh look at the potential for water reuse. The study debunked myths, and showed how hydrogeology and cost are barriers. There is one possibility that the new Nunes Treatment plant might be able to do water reuse but the cost has to be cheaper than SFPUC water and PG&E costs to pump it over the hill. That may happen some day.

The Army Corp of Engineers has invited 7 groups, including SFPUC’s water system to apply for $2B in low cost loans for critical dam safety upgrade projects. The SFPUC’s system extends to Hetch Hetchy. Crystal Springs remodeled their dam in 2020 but the Pilarcitos and Stone Pine dams were built in the late 1800’s. Given the fact a Pilarcitos dam failure could flood downtown Half Moon Bay this funding is a good thing. In fact, the SFPUC came to a Coastside County Water District meeting a couple months ago to discuss the need for such a dam upgrade.

A visitor’s ADA scooter was unable to cross Half Moon Bay’s historic Main Street Bridge due to the poor condition of the bridge pathway. A local friend came to the City Council to demand an immediate fix. The gentleman also happened to be a civil rights lawyer. It was one of the best and most compelling public comments that I have heard in the 10 years I have been doing Buzz.  >>> Pescadero Space

The Coastal Commission upheld Marin County’s Coastal Development Permit for 60 red-tagged Bolinas farmworkers‘ emergency housing in the form of RVs. The RV’s were purchased by Marin while permanent housing is built. And then someone appealed and lost. I posted this as Puente bought the old Delano Nursery site, in Pescadero, which is also the site of the old Pescadero Union High School. They need to figure out how to remodel the old building without making the existing tenants homeless. If San Mateo County could do what Marin County did it could be a possible solution. A little peanut butter in the chocolate kind of thinking.

The San Mateo County Sheriff gave its annual report to the Half Moon Bay City Council.  The sheriffs touted lower crime, a new Sheriff Activity League Office near schools (it is actually Krystlyn’s old Chamber office on Main Street) and a Midcoast Emergency Services Bureau at the old Coastside Fire Protection District fire station #41 opposite the El Granada post office.

Supervisor Mueller is working with various County Departments engaged with enforcement activities of illegally parked RV’s releasing sewage. Hopefully El Granada will be next for enforcement.

On behalf of Supervisor Ray Mueller and all Coastsiders San Mateo County Health has sent a letter demanding that California’s Attorney General comply with Federal and State Laws and provide a Standby Emergency Room at Seton Hospital to serve the Skilled Nursing Facility’s very vulnerable population. And Coastsider would also like Urgent Care services like blood draw and xrays.

Golden Gate to Farallone Islands swimmer, Amy Applehans Gubser, came to KHMB’s Coastal Windage last week for her very first major interview.  She will be a star now that she has been on Coastal Windage!! Have a listen.
