Customer Service Specialist II

The Coastside County Water District (CCWD) Customer Service Specialist II serves as a front-line customer support role, with a related focus on accounts receivable/billing and other accounting functions. The position includes fielding customer requests for service, processing utility payments, and responding to customer inquiries and complaints, in person, on the phone or via email. The Specialist completes accurate and timely statements and reports related to customer accounts and related customer activity. Essential functions include customer service administration, accounts receivable/billing, accounts payable/general ledger, general office administration, and water service processing.

Annual Salary Range: $80,007 to $97,483 depending on experience

Essential Functions:

  • Experience performing accounting functions. Accounts receivable tasks, such as processing payments, auditing billing for correctness, data input, verifying reports in order to prepare bank deposits
  • Prepares, mails, and ensures the accuracy of a variety of correspondence to customers in order to maintain system efficiency including final bills, reminder notices for inactive customer accounts, and service cut-off or 48-hour notices, etc.;
  • Assists customers in person and by phone, addressing questions regarding billing and provides high-quality customer service as necessary.
  • Performs a variety of routine clerical work, including filing, scanning, and collections, processing payments, and compiling reports
  • Requires strong computer skills including knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel); Adobe; experience with enterprise systems (including financial; customer service; and billing); and records management software
  • Performs major cashiering duties, including taking payments in person, processing credit card payments, balancing cash drawer, and preparing/monitoring bank deposits and statements for customer receipts.
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to problem-solve customer issues and to deal courteously and effectively with the public
  • Ability to analyze and summarize data, create reports and effectively communicate conclusion
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members
  • Fast and accurate data entry skills
  • Proficient with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proficiency required in handling and balancing cash
  • Knowledge of English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Knowledge of office methods and equipment, including filing systems
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high paced environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least five years of bookkeeping or accounting environment experience.
  • Accounting degree preferred
  • Three years of customer service experience in an administrative or clerical capacity
  • Excellent customer service skills with a pleasant and professional manner

CCWD Meeting Agendas

Regular meetings of the CCWD Board of Directors are held once each month on the second Tuesday. Regular meetings commence at 7:00 p.m. and are held in the District Office located at 766 Main Street, Half Moon Bay.

The date, time and place of a regular meeting may be changed by the Board of Directors in specific cases by a motion duly passed at a meeting duly called and held. Public notice shall be posted of any such change in the date, time or place of a regular meeting.
