HMB City Planning Considers PGE Vegetation Control South of Hwy 92 Near Hilltop Market

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

VIDEO. City of Half Moon Bay Planning board really digs in on this very necessary project considering visual corridors, invasive species and whether or not to use herbicides to control the eucalyptus, once they are cut down. Plan is to removes 79 trees and 115 brush units in a 540 square foot area.

Cypress trees will have to be cut down as they were planted right on top of PGE gas pipe and other utilities.

If anyone can tell me how those trees got there,

I’d love to know as no one in planning  knows.

Cape Ivy and Himalayan Grape Ivy, are invasive and must be controlled; once cut, they can come back with a vengeance.

No decision was made, last night, June 23rd, 2020. Staff will bring this topic back to the July 14th, 2020 meeting.

  1. No idea on the trees, but I do want to correct one error. Poison Oak is *NOT* invasive. It’s a native plant.
I can say that the County GIS aerial photos show a completely different set of trees on the same location just east of the Hilltop Market in the 2006 aerial photography, and the newer trees are there in the 2014 GIS aerial photography, so they were planted sometime prior to 2014.

So I went and looked at google earth time series, and it appears that they were planted sometime between May 2008 (when that was a field), and Oct 2008, when the trees are there.
