Half Moon Bay City Council Has Robust Discussion on Remote Meeting (Zoom) Format on whether to Pilot “Participation View”, but Hold on “Chat”
MCC Chair Gregg Dieguez “Tweaks” the HMB City Manager for Not Having Chat and Participants Open during Zoom Meeting, Like MCC Does
VIDEO. From the Midcoast Community Council (MCC) meeting on Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at 7:00pm by Zoom.
MCC Chair, Gregg Dieguez, tweaks City of Half Moon Bay’s City Manager for not having chat or participants open during any of the City remote meetings (council, planning, parks and recs and subcommittee). The City of Half Moon Bay Zooms in webinar form and only the Council and Staff can see each other. Citizens can not see each other. Chat expedites knowledge as participants and staff can drop links into the chat for clarification.
Bob Nisbet is the City Manager of Half Moon Bay and will be leaving us to go back home to Goleta.
As someone who literally watches every single public agency meeting relating to the Coastside, I find it alienating when the staff or board mentions all the people attending…and I can’t see any of my neighbors!! :-0 FOMO 🙁
Additionally, I drop Coastside Buzz posts in the chat to answer questions that people have. Lena Silberman, who represents Supervisor Horsley at the Midcoast Community Council meeting, also drops links into the chat for follow up on right away. It save a lot of time for her.
By having participants and chat on, the public agency expresses openness to their constituents.
So, why does Tim Fox, the San Mateo County attorney that oversees the MCC, allow participants and chat to be open for the MCC meetings? So, it is not a legal constraint.
So, why do most of the Coastside public agencies keep participants and chat off?
~ Michelle Dragony, Chief Buzz Officer of Coastside Buzz.
