PRESS RELEASE. Release date: 1/6/22
BIKE TEMPLE LAUNCHES AT ABUNDANT GRACE
Half Moon Bay. On January 9th, 2022, Abundant Grace Coastside Worker will partner with Coastside Mountain Bikers to launch the Bike Temple program. This program, which is scheduled to take place the first Sunday of each month, provides support for community members by connecting those who have mechanic skills or bicycles for donation with those in need of operable bicycles.
Many in our Coastside community rely on bicycle transportation for access to a job or necessary services, and such access provides the opportunity to be self-reliant. Working through Abundant Grace Coastside Worker, local bike mechanics and enthusiasts have created the Bike Temple, a program designed to support those who rely on bikes as their main form of transportation.
The first Bike Temple took place on 12/5/21 and was supported by members of the Coastside Mountain Bikers. Tony Pereira, Marin Holt, and Amy Henry were volunteer adult mechanics, while Mac Henry and Aiden DesTombe, Cunha Middle School students who are learning bike mechanic skills, also volunteered their time. During that time four bikes were refurbished for members of our community. In the future there will also be volunteer student mechanics from Half Moon Bay High School.
Bike Temple is seeking volunteer mechanics and bike donations for those in need. We can refurbish bikes that might be in need of a little love but are still rideable.
Please contact Marin Holt ([email protected]) or the Coastside Mountain Bikers ([email protected]) if you would like to sign up as a volunteer mechanic or if you have a bike to donate.
