NEWSLETTER. From the Friends of the Half Moon Bay Library Summer newsletter.
The Board of the Friends is delighted to announce that we have made a grant of $1840 to support the Half Moon Bay Robotics Club. The Club will use the money for three scholarships for students to join the team and for additional tools and materials as they prepare to expand their team’s capacity in the coming school year.
The Half Moon Bay Robotics Club (known as the Pumpkin Bots in competitions) was formed in 2021 with a small group of high-school students and other community members. They reached the World Championships with their first robot in the same year. You may have seen their robots during the July 4th parade this year. Soon, we hope to have the robots and the team join us at one of our Book Sales. As a small team, the Pumpkin Bots often compete with bigger teams who have more financial support. As team members, the students learn a wide range of skills that can be used now and in the future
—Team Collaboration, Construction, Game Strategy, and Marketing. They have made two presentations to the Board; we were impressed by their skills in both presentation and business case development.
We were unanimous in approving the funding that will be used to foster education, learning, and STEM experience. Join us in looking forward to the next generation of robots and success for the Half Moon Bay Robotics Club in more competitions!
Friends of the Library Newsletter Summer 2024
The Friends were delighted to be featured in the June newsletter from the Foundation for San Mateo County Libraries. This is part of our ongoing collaboration with the Foundation to raise awareness of their organization and other SMCL Friends groups. The article included an interview with our President, Paul Gater.

More on the Pumpkin Bots on Coastside Buzz
Mar 26, 2022 Rookie FRC team 8793 (Pumpkin Bots) from Half Moon Bay High School competing at the San Francisco Regionals in March 2022!
We went on to win three awards: Rookie Inspiration, Highest Rookie Seed and Rookie ALL STAR which got us qualified for the Robotics World Championship!
