Big Chill Out is for ALL AGES.
Our mission is to promote a spirit of etiquette and safety in the water. We protect our beaches from pollution and mistreatment. Our fundraisers support youth development through contest surfing, water safety, and beach clean up events.
History
Pedro Point has a rich history of surfing. “The Keating brothers and some other Ocean Beach guys started surfing Pedro Point in the late ‘30s and early ‘40s after Dick Keating got turned on to surfing by the Kahanamoku brothers while in the Islands for a swimming contest. Talking about Ocean Beach back in the ‘40’s, Fred Van Dyke said that most of the real board surfing was done at Pedro Point and Santa Cruz because those places were less exposed than Ocean Beach and easier to handle on clunky equipment.” (credit: Surfline)
The Pedro Point Surf Club was formed by a group of surfers in 1987 at Pedro Point (Pacifica State Beach), the club’s home break.
Volunteer
Pedro Point Surf Club is a 501(c)(3). You do not need to be a member to volunteer. We are always looking for volunteers to help with our contests, beach clean ups and water safety instruction. If you are interested in volunteering, please send an email to [email protected]
Organizations or individuals who make a donation qualify for a tax deduction under our 501(c)(3) status. Your donations help support our continued efforts to protect our beaches, and help fund our partner nonprofit program.
Last year’s donations supported beach cleanup efforts, water quality testing, surf lessons for underserved youth, and surf therapy for children with special needs.
