Erin Tormey’s (as in Farmer’s Market) Tribute to Silvio
Odd Fellows Tribute to Silvio
Silvio Modena
Silvio was raised in San Gregorio and graduated from Half Moon Bay High School, class of 1963. He joined the Navy and served with fellow coastsider John Muller in Vietnam.
After discharge Silvio worked as a Boiler Inspector for the US Government. His knowledge of metals and metal working inspired his second career, creating beautiful bells. An example of his artistry can be seen (and rung) in the open space next to HMB City Hall. One of Silvio’s bells also hangs in the Lodge.
Silvio is survived by his lifelong friend and wife, Sally Benson, as well as three sons, Silvio Junior, David and Alan. Silvio was remembered by one Odd Fellow yesterday, who remarked on his good nature. She said that if you looked up the word sweetheart in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Silvio. Odd Fellows will miss him and remember him with deep affection. Rest in peace, dear Bother.
