San Mateo County Supervisor Don Horsley comments and San Mateo County Planner Chandra Singh, presents Connect the Coastside update.

Note: Connect the Coastside was started 11 years ago when Horsley was one year into his first term, after the County finished the 2012 Local Coastal Plan Update (LCP). Funding was received for design funding in 2014, but CTC started and stopped and started again.”

At 19:38: Supervisor Horsley: Roundabouts at 16th, California and Cypress are the preferred design over crosswalks by CalTrans. CalTrans estimated $13M for the Cypress Roundabout.

Traffic lights require a lot more maintenance than roundabout. Operations and maintenance (O/M) must be considered over the lifetime of a project.

Red lights lead to more high speed broadside collisions leading to public safety and maintenance reduction. Truckee roundabout was only $2M. Ladera at Alpine Road was $5M.

Mayor Robert Brownstone promises a workshop on Roundabouts in the New Year.
