Recognition of Coastside Volunteer Firefighters for Successful Completion of Paramedic Training

STAFF REPORT

Staff recommends that the Board formally recognize Coastside Volunteer Firefighters Jeremy Schmit and Lucas Woodbridge for their outstanding achievements in completing the Paramedic Training program.

Background and Discussion
In February 2023, the Coastside Fire Protection District (District) made an investment in the future of its emergency medical services by sponsoring two Coastside Volunteer Firefighters, Jeremy Schmit and Lucas Woodbridge, to attend a rigorous Paramedic Training course. The Paramedic certification is essential for providing advanced lifesaving interventions during emergency medical incidents.

Both were successful in completing the program. Volunteer Firefighter Schmit and Volunteer Firefighter Woodbridge demonstrated exceptional dedication, perseverance, and a strong commitment to their professional development throughout the intensive training program. They successfully completed both
classroom and clinical components, showcasing their mastery of the advanced skills and knowledge required to become Paramedics.

The successful completion of the Paramedic Training program has opened new doors for Schmit and Woodbridge. Both Volunteer Firefighters have secured employment offers from CAL FIRE in the San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit as Fire Apparatus EngineerParamedics. This career advancement not only validates their hard work and talent but also positions them to make a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals throughout the Coastside in their new roles.

The District’s decision to sponsor Schmit and Woodbridge for the Paramedic Training program was a groundbreaking initiative. It set a precedent for future opportunities for Volunteer Firefighters to pursue advanced training and career advancement within the District.

The successful completion of the program by Schmit and Woodbridge reflects positively on the District’s commitment to supporting its Volunteer Firefighters and investing in the development of its emergency medical services. Their achievements serve as an inspiration for other Volunteer Firefighters, demonstrating the potential for growth and professional development within the organization.

Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to the District are commendable and serve as an inspiration for other Volunteer Firefighters. By recognizing their accomplishments, the District can publicly acknowledge their contributions to the organization and inspire others to strive for excellence.
